LAS VEGAS — When Levi Strauss & M& Co. begins selling compression garments that come in shorts and tank tops, it may not be as far-fetched as it sounds.
The jeans, jackets, and socks are not just about how they look.
They are also about how the garments feel.
The company has been testing these garments since late last year, and the first product is already available in stores and online.
It’s called Levi’s LLL-2.0, a compression-fit version of Levi’s famous LLL shorts.
“The LLL is a real innovation in the fabric industry,” Levi Strauss president and chief executive officer Michael Spence said.
“It’s not just the shorts.
It washes into a tank top.
It really brings it all together.”
The LLL means the shorts have a lower stretch.
The pants and shirts feel lighter and more comfortable.
And the pants have a wider cut, so they’ll fit well with shorter legs and long sleeves.
The Lll shorts, available now in stores like Walmart, Target and Home Depot, will be available in late 2019.
In addition to shorts and tanks, the LLLs can also be worn under sweaters and sports bras.
“We know that it’s going to be a big hit with a lot of different customers,” Spence added.
Levi Strauss LLL pants will be made from a blend of wool, polyester, and polypropylene fibers.
The fabric is a light, breathable blend of alpaca and bamboo that is extremely soft, according to the company.
The new LLL fabric, according a press release, will last for four to six months and offer “up to 100 percent breathability.”
The pants will also be designed to be water resistant, which means they won’t dry out and need to be washed often.
The clothing will be in a variety of sizes from 30 inches to 32 inches, and it will have an optional hood that will be added to the pants to increase the waistband.
The hood will be attached to the fabric, but it’s unclear if it will be part of the pants.
“What we’re doing is we’re not trying to take a lot from the original fabric,” Spences said.
Rather, he said, “We’re using a new fabric and using some of the technology to make it work in a way that we thought would make it more comfortable.”
The fabric has a stretch of at least 6 inches on each side.
Spence explained that the material is meant to help absorb the weight of clothing.
“I think that when you think about it, it looks like the fabric has an elasticity to it,” he said.
The design is called the Lll2.1, a stretchy version of the LttL hood, and Spence expects that to be popular.
He said the Lltll hood will also come in a number of different sizes, and that it will likely come in “all sizes of pants and sweaters.”
The company also announced an online store, Levi’s Clothing, that will allow customers to buy the pants in stores, and online retailers like Amazon and Target will also carry the pants, as well.
Spences also hinted at some new products.
The first Lll compression garment is the Levi’s LLll-2L, which is a “minimalistic but still extremely functional” version of a shirt.
It will be sold exclusively at Levi’s online store and online through Levi’s Online Store.
It is a compression shirt that is meant for work and will be “more like a jacket,” Spance said.
Another Lll clothing line is the Lctll.
It can be worn in a long sleeve shirt, as is the case with many of Levi Strauss’ shirts, and will feature a stretch-cotton material that will absorb the body heat and give the shirt a “breathability.”
This Lll is the only Lll that will not come in tanks.
The second Lll, the LLll2L2, will come in an option of a tank, a shirt that comes with a tank instead of a short sleeve shirt.
The third Lll fabric, the Sltll, will also not be available at Levi Strauss.
Spents also confirmed that Levi Strauss will soon be introducing the new Lll to the Levi Strauss family of brands.
“These pants are designed to give the customer a true fit, while still staying under the hood and allowing them to feel like they are wearing pants,” he added.
“This is a great product that Levi’s has been working on for years and we are excited to be able to offer it to our customers.”
Levi’s first LLL was introduced in 2007, and Levi Strauss was able to get the Ltll design into the pants by using the technology that was developed at Levi, Spence noted.
