A designer who was once known for selling $200 pair of underwear is in jail on a charge of selling sex for money, the police said.
The man, who goes by the name of Gopi, was arrested in south Mumbai’s Bapu locality on Wednesday.
Police have registered a case of alleged prostitution and possession of a child for selling underwear in a public place, police said in a statement.
“The accused has been booked under sections 354 (Possible exposure of sexual organs for the purpose of prostitution), 354 (Criminal intimidation by threats or intimidation), 354B (Possession of child by a minor), 354D (Possessing child by an unmarried minor), 342 (Prostitution of a minor) and 342A (Punishment for committing an offence against a minor),” police said on Wednesday evening.
The police said they have registered an FIR under Section 354 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC), 354 of which makes it an offence to expose sexual organs of another person to a person for sexual gratification, 354A for the sale of sexual services and 354D for the possession of child for the purposes of prostitution.
According to the police, Gopis underwear, worth up to Rs 10,000, were found at his house.
Gopi is believed to have sold the underwear to his customers through online classifieds websites.
